Herman van Eeden SC was called to the Johannesburg Bar in 1989. He was recommended for silk in 2007 and received his Letters Patent the following year.
Herman served on the treasury committee of the Johannesburg Bar for a number of years and on the management committee of The Maisels Group since 2005.
In 2019 the group elected Herman to chair its management committee, a position he still holds.

Herman has a general commercial litigation practice, and has often appeared in matters involving administrative law and review applications, government procurement, banking and credit law, suretyships and guarantees, contract, negotiable instruments, delict, insolvency, pension and insurance law. He has twice acted as amicus curiae in public law matters.

Herman is married to Olmay and they have two children, Steyn and Helena. He takes a keen interest in outdoors life and enjoys spending time in the Vredefort Dome, Free State, where he commercially farms cattle and sheep.
